Lacostes history dates to 1925 and the Davis Cup match between France and Australia. Between a few workouts strolled the French team in town. René spotted a bag in crocodile skin, that he immediately became very fond of René made a bet with the captain Pierre Gillou, where he would get the bag if he won its remaining matches. René lost the bet and won t your bag. An American journalist, however, had picked up the story and wrote:

Lacoste became “the Alligator”. He allowed a friend to draw the classic Lacoste logo and placed it on shirts that he wore during matches.

Because of the injuries forced René Lacoste end his career in the early 1930s. He was then advised by a friend to start a company that manufactured clothing with his well-known krokodillogga. It made Lacoste and 1933 he founded together with businessman André Gillier La Société Chemise Lacoste.

In the 1950s the company expanded greatly, then it started to launch clothing in colors other than white (the classic tennis color). René ‘s son Bernhard took over the company in 1963. After the enormous success (mainly in the United States) during the 1960s and 1970s, the company started in the 1990s, losing market share and a long term strategy for renewal and development was adopted.
